Buying makeup can be quite confusing for anyone just learning or starting to build their makeup kit. There are many brands and tools, making it difficult to figure out exactly what items you need.

Ready to up your game? I’ve got you covered with some must have items for starting your kit. This list is comprised of easy to use items for beginners.

Moisturizer

The foundation for great makeup is great skin. Just be sure you are using the correct moisturizer for your skin type.

Primer

Prepping your face with primer provides a canvas that helps keep your face looking flawless all day.

Concealer

Concealer does just that – conceals and camouflages imperfections.

Foundation

Foundation is your makeup base. When used with concealer, less foundation is necessary. Be sure to match your foundation appropriately to your skin tone and undertone to avoid the dreaded “mask.”

Eyebrow Pomade/Definer/Pencil

There are a number of tools available to sculpt and define your eyebrows. Remember, your eyebrows frame your face and may cause you to look years older depending on your brow shape. I would suggest a brow pomade for beginners as it’s easy to apply.

Eyeliner

Pencil eyeliner is the easiest type of eyeliner to apply and is great for everyday looks. Keep your pencil sharp (but not too sharp), to not only get your line as close to the lash line as possible, but also keep your pencil clean and free of bacteria.

Mascara

For most just beginning, applying false lashes is very difficult and time consuming. Skip the falsies by applying a great mascara. There are different types of mascara for the look you desire whether it be more volume, length, or the dramatic eye. One tip is to apply at least 2 coats of mascara for more effect!

Lipstick – Nude & Red

Lipsticks now come in a variety of forms and shades – liquid, matte, satin, shimmer and more…but no matter the form you choose, you should always have a nude, and red lipstick. These two shades will take you from day to night.

Blush

A classic blush is an incredible finishing touch to a full face of makeup and is almost impossible to mess up.

Highlighter

Add a subtle glow to your face by applying highlighter to the tops of your cheekbones. This will give you a healthy lit from within glow.

Eyeshadow Palette

An eyeshadow palette will give you versatility in your looks. Go with a palette that has everyday nudes plus a few bright colors.

Q-Tips

Make a mistake? It’s an easy fix. Dabbing a Q-tip into eye cream is the secret for instantly erasing eyeliner or eyeshadow mistakes.

Makeup Remover Wipes

Party too hard or too lazy to wash your face? Makeup wipes will be your best friend!
